Girls Camp: The Overnighter

So being a 3rd year.......I got to go on the overnight hike designated for 3rd years. In total it was like 3. 5(?) miles, but it goes down hill the first Day and then back uphill the next. I think it's the least favorite hike. But it was fun. I like hiking. :D

My backpack was quite light (though they tend to get heavier) so it wasn't that much of a problem. Once we made it down we stopped for lunch about 40 yards(I think it was) away from the real campsite, to have lunch. The reason we didn't go to the campsite, was because there was some fun things. They have a rope (or Monkey) bridge that you can cross, a confidence wall you can jump off onto a huge thick mat, and a zipline farther down the stream.

We learned how to make rope harnesses for the Monkey Bridge. Then we did it. We jumped off the confidence wall. We went a ways down the stream to this nice wadingish area. We also got to go on the zipline over this fallen log. Epic. :D

After spending a few hours playing, we moved on to the campsite and got set up. As the men started the fire and stuff, we worked on certification. Such as using a compass and starting a fire. We paired up, and I was with Meagan. It was hilarious, it took us ten minutes to get it started, And then it only stayed burning for a few minutes. We were like "Don't stop Baby!" You know girls. :D

Dinner was AMAZING! We had dutch ovens and supplies that were transported to the site by a truck. We had a chicken and veggie stew (oh man so good) and then Peach cobbler for dessert. Heaven. :D

As it got dark us girls retreated to the "meadow" (cleared ground uphill for sleeping) where we laid out our sleeping bags on tarps. No tents.

Going to the bathroom in the woods is very interesting....and strange. I am so glad we have working toilets! Haha, you will never appreciate your bathroom so much, then when you must live out in the woods. :D But it was a cool experience.

I slept pretty well. The place we slept was a little slanted, so I woke up a few times in the night and had to move around. So cancel sleeping well. :D About 4ish I woke to this Really bright light. It was HUGE! Hugely bright I guess. It like encompassed the whole camp. Turns out it was the moon. But It was like a stadium light.

The next day we made French toast for breakfast. Yum. About 10 we headed out and made it back around 11:30, (counting breaks) All in all a quick trip, despite the uphill. We rose REALLY fast. We were so hyped to have an hour to shower before lunch. Oh man it was great.....

All in all it was a great experience. Can't wait for next years hike...It's 12 miles. But luckily flat.
